Mitzi Pederson has used the third floor exhibition space to create an experimental on-site material installation with tracing paper, gesso, black velvet, and scraps of paper. Her work typically employs material combinations that maintain simplicity while revealing unexpected, inherent qualities of each element. The compositions depend on relationships established between the materials. The treatment and assembly tend to rely on tension, endurance, vulnerability, and chance while also addressing the occupation of space in some way. The work consistently addresses notions of time, value, and perception. Pederson has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad and is represented by Ratio 3 gallery in San Francisco.
